The Undercroft, Merchant Adventurers' Hall
Nikki Bowling
Business was very important to the Merchant Adventurers, but it was not the only thing that mattered to them.
Charity has been part of the Merchant Adventurers’ work right from the very start. They began in 1357 as a religious, not a business, organisation.
From 1372 they were able to provide more charitable help when King Edward III granted them a licence to found a hospital or almshouse in the Hall.
