The Governor’s Stall at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall

Merchant Adventurers' Hall

The Governor’s Stall is Georgian (from about 1750) and was not built for the Great Hall, which is why it does not quite blend in with the rest of the room.

It used to be in the York Assize Court.

The Stall is used for formal meetings; the Governor sits in the centre and his Deputy and Wardens sit either side. These Company meetings are called Courts. In the past, members who broke any of the Company rules were brought to one of the four courts held each year to explain what they had done and perhaps be fined.
