The addition of the Committee Room in the early 19th Century

The Committee Room, in the corner of the Great Hall, was inserted in the early 19th century. It was designed to be a room where the members could hold private meetings.
The ceiling in this room was made much lower than in the Great Hall, creating a more intimate atmosphere, which was better for private meetings.
The members today often have their meetings in this room, but in the past members preferred to hold their meetings in a local coffee house.
