The Elizabethan addition to the Hall; today these rooms are the first two anterooms and the main office
Bright White
On the first floor there are three anterooms. The name anteroom means a room before another room, for example a small room leading to a main room.
The first two anterooms and the room that is now the Hall’s main office were added to the Hall around the year 1600 when Elizabeth I was Queen. They were built as three small cottages, each with three floors.
When they were first built they were used for displaying and selling cloth. However their use changed and until around 1890 they were used as homes for the caretakers of the Hall.
