How the Hall may have looked when it was first built

The Hall was built between 1357 and 1361. However, work did not stop there and over the years there have been many changes and alterations.
Some of these changes have been for practical reasons, for example providing more space, which is similar to putting an extension on a house.
Others were because of changing fashions and taste, just like when we choose to redecorate our homes. It is thought that the outside of the Hall was covered with plaster when it was first built.
The changes also allowed the Merchant Adventurers to demonstrate their growing wealth and power.
