How the Hall may have looked when it was first built

Bright White

Since the Hall was built 650 years ago it has gone through many alterations. New inventions and fashions have largely been responsible but there have also been very practical reasons for changes, like the need to avoid flooding in the Undercroft.

Despite these changes, there are many clues to show us what the Hall would have looked like when it was built. The original Hall only had three rooms; the Undercroft and Chapel on the ground floor and the Great Hall on the first floor.
