York Archeological Trust

The Company started as a religious and charitable organisation, not just devoted to business.

It also started out with a different name: The Fraternity and Guild of Our Lord Jesus Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

This was the name of the Company in 1357 when they began building the Hall, with permission from King Edward III. But as the organisation changed so did the name.
